The N.A.G presents Are You Afraid? | De Kunstfabriek
In the latest exhibition of De Kunstfabriek by Tim Wes, Marlou Fernanda and Sebastian Boon, also known as the New Avant-Garde (N.A.G.), the audience is invited to engage with a provocative question: Are You Afraid? The exhibition’s conceptual text, deliberately fallen and scattered across the floor, compels visitors to seek understanding within themselves, all while 33 enigmatic ceramic heads are watching them.
This installation delves into the intricacies of self-perception, confronting visitors with the multifaceted nature of their own identities and the widespread influence of external opinions. It explores the narrative of internal processes, suggesting that we harbor numerous personas within us. Additionally, it speculates on the future of human expression in an age marked by rapid technological advancement and global surveillance, where it appears that artificial intelligence often receives more investment than human intellect. The blue sculptures hint at a dystopian world, as if they aim to give us a glimpse of the future.
Growth is realized when seeds consistently get nurtured. In order for these seeds to find their way to the surface, disruption is inevitable. The process of facing fears and uncertainties, and finding power in the acceptance has brought unity, faith and light. We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who attended the opening of this special project, marking the first in-house creation by the talented N.A.G.
Recently, the multi-talented was in town to headline North Sea Jazz Festival and stopped by with his band to spend some time with us. In between mingling with N.A.G.’s sculptures, great conversations and hilarious moments were shared— all beautifully captured through the lens of .
