Meet the Musicians | Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra
The iconic Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra is a modern orchestra with strong roots in the tradition of classical music and the vibrant spirit of their home city, Rotterdam. Under the leadership of chief conductor Lahav Shani, their concert programs connect tradition with innovation. Classical music is combined with disciplines such as visual art, film, or dance, and they provide a platform for both established artists and young talent. As a quintessentially Rotterdam-based orchestra, they build bridges between the city and the international scene, working closely with partners in the region and abroad. We were asked to create the portraits of the musicians, in film and photography.
The Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra (RPHO) excels in engaging classical culture enthusiasts, predominantly those aged over 60, successfully drawing them into the theater. However, they face challenges in connecting with a more diverse, younger audience at the opposite spectrum. As a representation of the 21st-century orchestra and one of the world's finest, RPHO requires a visual language that seamlessly aligns with the contemporary zeitgeist—inspiring and progressive. Our exploration delves into the personas within the orchestra, crafting a world that resonates with their essence.
