PROJECT BRIEF

Step into the captivating world of ‘The Butterfly Effect’ at De Kunstfabriek, where Marlou Fernanda, Sebastian Boon, and Tim Wes (N.A.G.) showcase the intricate connections that shape our reality. Inspired by chaos theory, this exhibit considers how small events can have a big impact on our existence. The concept of The Butterfly Effect is rooted in the idea that our world is complexly interconnected, in such a way that a minor event can exert a profound influence on a much larger and complex system. This phenomenon takes its name from an allegory within chaos theory, suggesting that even the subtle flutter of a butterfly's wings has the potential, in theory, to set off a chain reaction leading to significant events, such as the development of a typhoon.

Marlou Fernanda (1996)
Based in Rotterdam, Marlou Fernanda is a self-taught visual artist exploring various mediums such as paintings, films, performances, and set design. Guided by her inner compass, she navigates her creative direction with a focus on self-discovery and authenticity, inviting audiences to witness her artistic evolution with transparency. Through her work, Fernanda offers viewers a glimpse into her spiritually inspired universe, prompting contemplation of life's deepest questions.

Tim Wes (1993)
His delicate taste for cultural blending and ability to challenge the status quo of the universal perception of art, gave life to a genre bending artistry, the proverbial energy that flows through his creations reflect the disruptive-healing vision he has for the world. He shows us that the term uomo universale, today also referred to as a multidisciplinary artist, still exists. Just as Da Vinci embodied this in the 15th century, the Rotterdam based creator redefines the definition of this term by establishing unprecedented innovations in the contemporary fields. A blueprint for the new order.

Sebastian Boon (1998)
Also known by his pseudonym Segraphy, Sebastian is a Peruvian-Dutch multidisciplinary artist based in Amsterdam. With roots in photography and graphic design, his foundation in visual storytelling has evolved into a diverse practice that spans multiple mediums. Always pushing artistic boundaries, he explores the interplay of color and composition in innovative ways. What started as a personal journey to manage childhood anxiety has grown into a lifelong creative pursuit.Today, replacing fear with love is still the driving force behind his work, continually shaping his artistic expression.

What I’ve glimpsed in my dreams is beyond description, so I won’t even try. Grateful—we’ve begun.

ABOUT THE CLIENT
An organism where everything is interconnected, but not everything serves the same function. A physical space that engages in the discovery of the present. A belief-system that questions the status quo, challenges institutional systems, and moreover, develops alternate realities to what our world perceives as a common truth. De Kunstfabriek is a multitude of rooms for experimentation where the format is secondary to the story, and the medium is defined by its purpose. A platform that supports the unheard. A dream, where unexplored paths invite exploration. A movement, founded for and by misfits.
